Determining time resolution of microchannel plate detectors for electron time-of-flight spectrometers.
The temporal resolution of a 40 mm diameter chevron microchannel plate (MCP) detector followed by a constant fraction discriminator and a time-to-digital converter was determined by using the third order harmonic of 25 fs Ti:sapphire laser pulses. The resolution was found to deteriorate from 200 to 300 ps as the total voltage applied on the two MCPs increased from 1600 to 2000 V. This was likel...
متن کاملNeutron Time-of-Flight Spectroscopy
The time-of-flight technique is employed in two of the instruments at the NIST Cold Neutron Research Facility (CNRF). A pulsed monochromatic beam strikes the sample, and the energies of scattered neutrons are determined from their times-of-flight to an array of detectors. The time-of-flight method may be used in a variety of types of experiments such as studies of vibrational and magnetic excit...
متن کاملA comparison of four direct geometry time-of-flight spectrometers at the Spallation Neutron Source.
The Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory now hosts four direct geometry time-of-flight chopper spectrometers. These instruments cover a range of wave-vector and energy transfer space with varying degrees of neutron flux and resolution. The regions of reciprocal and energy space available to measure at these instruments are not exclusive and overlap significantly. We presen...
متن کاملSeries 3800 Aerosol Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometers with Aerodynamic Focusing Lens Technology
Flight Mass Spectrometers (ATOFMS) in the 3800 series of instruments with built-in Aerodynamic Focusing Lens technology. Without a focusing lens, the ATOFMS samples particles from a variety of sources through a nozzle. Typically, particles from about 100 to 3000 nanometers are sampled with sharply decreasing efficiency for smaller sizes. To overcome this size bias, to sample smaller particles e...
متن کاملHigh resolution detection system for time of flight electron spectrometry
One of the key components of a time of flight (TOF) spectrometer is the detection system. In addition to high timing resolution, accurate 2-dimensional imaging substantially broadens the areas of applications of TOF spectrometers; for example, add a new dimension to angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARpES). In this paper we report on the recent developments of a high spatial (<50 pm) a...
